Numerical model for thermal convection in a cylindrical annulus heated laterally

چکیده
1 Abstract In this paper we study thermoconvective instabilities appearing in a fluid which is in a cylindrical annulus heated laterally. As soon as the applied temperature gradient reaches a critical value a stationary bifurcation takes place. The problem is modelized with the original Navier Stokes equations by keeping pressure with appropriate boundary conditions. This is a low order formulation which in cylindrical coordinates introduces lower order singularities. The problem is solved numerically by a Chebyshev collocation method easily implemented. The convergence of the method has been proved and the results are in good agreement with those obtained in rectangular domains and in experiments.

Thermal convection in a cylindrical annulus heated laterally
In this paper we study thermoconvective instabilities appearing in a fluid within a cylindrical annulus heated laterally. As soon as a horizontal temperature gradient is applied a convective state appears. As the temperature gradient reaches a critical value a stationary or oscillatory bifurcation may take place. The problem is modelled with a novel method which extends the one described in [10...
متن کاملNumerical investigation of natural convection phenomena in uniformly heated trapezoidal Cylinder inside an elliptical Enclosure
A numerical study of the natural convection of the laminar heat transfers in the stationary state was developed in a horizontal ring and compared between a heated trapezoidal internal cylinder and a cold elliptical outer cylinder. This annular space is traversed by a Newtonian and incompressible fluid. The Prandtl number is set to 0.7 (air case) for different Rayleigh numbers. The system of equ...
متن کاملNumerical Study of Electro-thermo-convection in a Differentially Heated Cavity Filled with a Dielectric Liquid Subjected to Partial Unipolar Injection
The Coulomb force applied by an electric field on any charge present in a dielectric liquid may cause fluid motion. At high applied electric fields in an insulating liquid, electric charge carriers are created at metallic/liquid interfaces, a process referred to as ion injection, and result from electrochemical reactions. In this article we deals with the problem of electro thermal convection i...

Laminar mixed convection of Aluminium oxide (Al2O3)–water nanofluid flow in an inclined annulus using a single-phase approach was numerically studied. Constant heat flux boundary conditions were applied on the inner and outer walls. All the thermophysical properties of nanofluid, such as, viscosity, heat capacity, thermal conductivity, and thermal expansion coefficient...

The three-dimensional instability of the thermocapillary convection in cylindrical undeformable floating zones heated laterally is studied numerically. Different types of the boundary conditions, including radiation heating, linearized radiation and prescribed heat flux are used in the calculation. Stability diagrams showing the Prandtl number dependence of the critical Marangoni numbers that r...
